Sonali is currently the host of BBC One’s Escape to the Country, Radio 4’s Today programme sport bulletins and regularly appears on BBC Breakfast. She is well known for being one of the faces of BBC Sport, contributing to the presentation teams for Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, London 2012 Olympic Games and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, alongside presenting numerous live events such as the Queen’s 90th Birthday, Prince William and Catherine’s wedding and the Lord Mayor’s Show. She also spent a five-year stint at Newsround covering everything from the Bejing Olympics to filming special reports from Haiti and Afghanistan.
Sonali began her professional broadcasting career in BBC radio after graduating university in 2001, and produced and presented news and business programmes on the World Service and Radio 5 Live. Her warmth, charm and versality have seen her become a long standing member of the BBC team, and a go-to name in presenting sports & live events.
Away from the camera, Sonali prides herself in her charity work as an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust and the British Asian Trust, and regularly supports Barnardo’s. She has also been a member of the judging panel for BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, and was a contestant on Let’s Dance for Comic Relief in 2013. Sonali loves to travel, from gorilla trekking in Uganda to surfing in Brazil, although her trips are less frequent now she is mother to two daughters.
