Mark Lemon first started writing and publishing children’s books after noticing the lack of diversity in them, and as a father of two dual heritage children himself, wanted something to change. His series of books features his own children, Otis and Thea Lemon, and his debut title Otis Lemon & The Spectacular Submarine was awarded the Platinum Junior Design Award for the Children’s Book of the Year in 2016.
Sadly, Mark’s own father was murdered when he was just 12 years old and he has since drawn on his childhood trauma to write his latest book, The Magical Wood. Published on the 26th anniversary of his father’s death, the book has been praised by families who are coping with grief or anticipating the death someone they love. Mark now works alongside charities including Winston’s Wish and Grief Encounter to raise awareness around grief, and acts as a media spokesperson on the subject.
